Where is it and how to get there?
It is located in the southwest of Lanzarote, between the municipalities of Yaiza and Tinajo. The main access point and visitor entrance are on the Carretera de Yaiza a Tinajo (LZ-67), at the Islote de Hilario. You can get there by your own car to the visitor centre car park, on an organised tour, or by bus (guagua) from Arrecife and other tourist areas.

What to see at Timanfaya
Route of the Fire Mountains
Included in the entrance ticket, this is done by guided bus (the so-called 'Route of the Volcanoes'), with departures roughly every 20 minutes and lasting about 35-40 minutes, with audio commentary in Spanish and English. It crosses lava fields, craters and stunning volcanic landscapes.
Geothermal demonstrations
At the Islote de Hilario you can see how underground heat instantly turns water into steam and sets dry brushwood alight.
Camel ride (optional)
In the Echadero de Camellos area, an ideal experience for families and anyone looking for original photos. This is a separate activity, not included in the park entrance ticket.
Practical tips
- Book your ticket online in advance at ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com: there are no ticket-office sales and capacity per time slot is limited, especially in high season.
- You cannot tour the park in your own car or on foot: access to the Fire Mountains is only via the park's guided bus.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before your booked time, with your ticket downloaded on your phone (mobile coverage in the area is scarce).
- Bring water, sunscreen and comfortable footwear.
